Strategies and campaigns of European youth policy for diversity and tolerance – strategies of the EU and the Council of Europe.
Through the European YOUTH Programme, the European Union has been supporting out-of-school international youth education since 2000. One of the objectives connected to the promotion of intercultural learning is to intensify the awareness for tolerance and solidarity as a means of preventing racism and xenophobia. The EU ministerial conference of October 2004 declared 2005 the year of the “Fight against racism”, thus underlining the efforts of the EU to develop a strategy of out-of-school youth education.
In December 1994 the Council of Europe launched its Europe-wide campaign "All different, all equal". This campaign is part of several activities of the Council of Europe against “Racism, xenophobia, anti-semitism and intolerance”. The Youth campaign “All different, all equal“ was organized by national groups, with a central secretariat in Strasbourg.
This group will present and discuss the different strategies of the EU and the Council of Europe for diversity and tolerance in a practice-oriented way.
