Strategies and campaigns of European youth policy for diversity and tolerance – strategies of the EU and the Council of Europe.

Through the European YOUTH Programme, the European Union has been supporting out-of-school international youth education since 2000. One of the objectives connected to the promotion of intercultural learning is to intensify the awareness for tolerance and solidarity as a means of preventing racism and xenophobia. The EU ministerial conference of October 2004 declared 2005 the year of the “Fight against racism”, thus underlining the efforts of the EU to develop a strategy of out-of-school youth education.
